Congratulations on being selected as a member of the pilot cohort of the Cultural Competence Leadership Institute (CCLI). This experience was designed by UNC Diversity and Multicultural Affairs (DMA) to provide you with signature leadership and career development experiences. CCLI’s innovative and interactive seminar configuration will challenge you in new and exciting ways. Our goal is to provide you with leadership skills and professional competencies that will prepare you for graduate school, professional school, and the global workforce.
Cultural competence is about navigating across lines of difference—and realizing that those differences are vast. It is a skill that both the public and private sector are seeking as a necessary part of any applicant’s portfolio. As the nature of the workplace changes, organizations are looking for talented leaders who can thrive in the rapidly changing world we live in.
Your participation in CCLI will provide you with experiences that you can take with you wherever you go. You will have access to top faculty and staff from the UNC campus community, our Corporate Advisory Partners (CAPs) and the CCLI Board members. As a CCLI Scholar, you will also participate in professional coaching sessions with DMA’s Diversity Expert-In-Residence, Mr. Dennis Brennan—former Director of Inclusion at McDonald’s Corporation.
CCLI is a place for you to explore your identity, grow as a leader, and to understand the integral connection between cultural competence and leadership. My advice to you is to fully leverage this experience—step out of your comfort zone and do things that are new to you, meet people who are different than you, and share this time with each other as you grow and learn.
Welcome to CCLI and the DMA family.
